When Afia woke, she was lying in her bed, Sedi and her husband were standing beside her and looking down upon her.
She looked from one person to the other and looked away.
“Sweetheart, what happened to you, you suddenly passed out, is there something wrong with you?” Sedi asked her.
She turned to look at Patrick’s face and was surprised, he looked sincerely worried, how could he be worried, he knew exactly what he had done to her and here he was acting dumb.
She knew him to Jeffery but Sedi had told her his name was Patrick. How could she tell her new friend she was married to a monster?
“ I’m really sorry….i….your husband looked like someone to me, I’m really sorry”.
“Oh dear, sorry, what did the person do to you?” He asked as he extended his hand to touch her but she lay back down avoiding his touch.
He looked at his wife and back at Afia. “You are welcome to live here as long as you can, every friend of my wife’s is my friend, she needs the company because I’m always away, I’ll be leaving on Monday so…..make yourself at home, I hope with time, you realize that I am nothing compared to whoever did whatever to make you feel that bad about me”.
He smiled but she didn’t smile back so he left the room.
“Afia, you can tell me whatever is wrong, you can trust me”. Afia sat up and smiled at her.
“I’m really sorry about what happened, I’m fine really, don’t worry, I’ll just sleep a bit”.
Sedi nodded and left the room. Afia looked around at everything in the room, there was a two seater sofa, a wardrobe, a dressing mirror, the bed, there wasn’t much in the room to use as weapons though, most of the sharp things were soft plastic.
She stood on her feet and walked close to the door, she listened for the sound of plotting or something but the place was silent.
She sat in the bed, she needed protection from the world outside and now the one inside. She was so confused that tears started to flow down her cheeks.
She remembered that night vividly. “She was running from her own problems, she had arrived at a pub and saw Patrick sitting at the bar but she paid no attention to him, she sat and ordered for shots of brandy mixed with lemon but when she was about to pay, he paid.
She thanked him and went back to drinking her brandy.
He stepped down and walked right over to her “And what is a beautiful sexy lady like you…..doing in a place like this?”
She looked at him carefully. He looked like a gentleman who wasn’t capable of getting disgusting like that.
“if you don’t mind I’d like to concentrate on my drink and leave ok”. He sneered and chuckled.
“Anyway, my name is Jeffery….you?” He asked. She looked at him for a few seconds. “thanks for the drink” she said and walked out of the bar with her bag.
As she walked down the dark quiet road she felt someone was watching her….following her but she saw no one until she got under the bridge.
She felt someone following her and when she turned it was him. He grabbed her arm and pinned her against the wall.
“I’ve handled sluts like you before, they always prefer the rough and dirty so I’m going to give you rough and dirty”.
She snapped back to reality. She didn’t even want to think of what happened next, it was too dark for her soul to accept.
She opened the door and stepped out. She saw him again and staggered, he had showered and was now wearing the shirt he wore when he raped her. She fidgeted.
He turned to look at her as Sedi walked towards her. Sedi was married to a rapist, a serial one she was sure for she remembered he said he knew sluts like her. How could she tell her to be careful when she herself was a murderer running away from the law?
